Bucks County Children & Youth Social Services Agency to Celebrate 50th Anniversary April 30 in Ivyland

April 27, 2015

On Thursday, April 30, 2015, the Bucks County Children and Youth Social Services Agency (BCCYSS) will celebrate its 50th Anniversary of service to the Bucks County community. The Anniversary Celebration will consist of a cocktail reception from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Spring Mill Manor, 171 Jacksonville Rd., Ivyland PA. The cost is $25 per person. Attendees are invited to register in advance or at the door.

This event is jointly sponsored by the Bucks County Children and Youth Advisory Board and Bucks for Kids (B4K). The reception is being co-chaired by Jim and Tina Greenwood to honor 50 years of the outstanding service by BCCYSS while also raising funds for Bucks for Kids.

Honorary chairs, Jim and Tina Greenwood, met while they were both caseworkers for BCCYSS and they both remain committed to the mission of the agency. Currently the president and CEO of the Biotechnology Industry Organization, Mr. Greenwood represented Pennsylvania’s Eighth Congressional District for six terms in the United States House of Representatives.

Appointed by the Board of County Commissioners, the Bucks County Children and Youth Advisory Board members are citizens who have an interest and commitment to promoting the welfare of vulnerable children and their families. The Board’s purpose is to recommend plans and policy to the commissioners and to aid and assist in the establishment, development and operation of social services to children and youth in need in Bucks County.

Bucks for Kids is a non-profit 501© (3) all volunteer organization established in 1991 by members of the Children and Youth Advisory Board to provide financial assistance to individual children receiving services from BCCYSS.

Since B4K began, over 5,000 individual children have been awarded substantial financial assistance for everything from summer camp tuition, to class trip funding, to graduation photos, to job training costs and most importantly, college scholarships. Every year since 1991, the Bucks County Commissioners have proclaimed June as “Graduate Month,” to celebrate Bucks for Kids’ granting of thousands of dollars of scholarships to graduating Bucks County high school seniors. In many cases, without this funding, these students could not continue their post high school education.

Sponsorships for the event are still available. Members of the public are invited to join in this celebration while helping a worthy cause. Contact: BCCY50th@gmail.com.
